Sweden and Kuwait strengthen historic ties with new cooperation deals

Sweden and Kuwait have enjoyed a long-standing relationship, with diplomatic ties dating back to 1965. Despite the absence of remarkable Swedish business achievements in Kuwait since the 1960s, trade and cooperation between the two nations have flourished.

Kuwaiti entrepreneurs have bolstered trade with Sweden, leading to a steady growth in cooperation. This includes a recent Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations and partnerships in technology, energy, artificial intelligence, and life sciences.

The non-resident Swedish Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Fredrik Florén, praised the ties between the two countries, describing them as 'historic and distinguished'. Ambassador Sadiq Marafi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs, expressed hope for the opening of a Swedish embassy in Kuwait, which would further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation.

Sweden is committed to deepening cooperation with Kuwait across political, economic, and cultural fields. The Kuwait Towers, designed by Sweden's Lindstrom firm in 1965, stand as a lasting symbol of this bilateral friendship. Their collaboration during joint UN Security Council membership in 2018 further underscores the strength of their relationship.
