Swiss bakery’s modernization stalled by stubborn condo owner opposition
Roessli Beck Doerr AG, a Swiss bakery, has been entangled in a long-standing legal dispute over its modernization project in Sulgen. Despite several court rulings in favor of the project, objections from a minority of condo owners have hindered its progress. Meanwhile, Managing Director Edgar Ehrbar is exploring a costly alternative in Amriswil's Buchenhoelzli industrial estate.
The modernization project, initially planned in 2020, has faced resistance from a group of condo owners. Despite multiple rulings supporting the project, one opponent vows to 'fight every change' Roessli Beck wants to make. The dispute involves 21 condo owners, with 17 backing the modernization and 3 opposing it.
With the project at a standstill, Roessli Beck Doerr AG is considering alternative locations. The town of Amriswil is in talks with the company about industrial building land for a potential relocation. Ehrbar's goal remains to expand in Sulgen, but Amriswil is being considered as an expensive alternative.
A further ruling by the district court is still pending, which could potentially resolve the stalemate. However, if the legal dispute continues, Roessli Beck Doerr AG may be forced to relocate, impacting the local economy and community in Sulgen.
