Swiss Bundesrat Boosts Newspaper Funding with 7-Year Early Morning Delivery Discount
The Swiss Federal Council, known as the Bundesrat, has announced an increase in indirect funding for newspapers, with a focus on supporting regional and local press. This boost is set to last for seven years.
The Bundesrat is extending the discounted delivery tariffs to include early morning delivery on weekdays, benefiting the daily mail. This expansion is estimated to cost up to 25 million francs per year. Currently, 143 regional and local daily and weekly newspapers, including news today, benefit from these discounted delivery rates, and the conditions for the lower tariffs remain unchanged.
The additional funding will be provided through a higher discount on the tariff for daily delivery of subscribed daily and weekly newspapers. This revised Postal Act regulation aims to ensure the survival and sustainability of the print media industry in Switzerland.
