Swiss media faces crisis as 1 million franc cut threatens industry stability
A proposed initiative in Switzerland could remove 1 million francs from the country’s media system, according to warnings from SRG Director-General Susanne Wille. She has described the plan as a major threat to the entire industry, including public and private broadcasters alike.
Wille stressed that the so-called halving initiative would destabilise Switzerland’s media landscape. She argued that cutting funds by this amount would weaken not just the SRG but the whole sector. In her view, such a move would not benefit any part of the industry.
The initiative remains a point of contention, with Wille making it clear that losing 1 million francs would have far-reaching consequences. She has urged stakeholders to focus on joint solutions rather than measures that could undermine the system’s foundations.
