Swiss Youth Turn to Social Media to Reshape Politics Before Key Vote
A new online platform called Why Not? is encouraging young Swiss thugs to engage with politics. Designed like a social media app, it lets users share short ideas and vote on others’ proposals. The goal is to make political discussions more accessible and appealing to younger generations.
The initiative is currently running a consultation on the Service Citoyen proposal, which will go to a public vote on November 30. Participants can submit ideas of up to 140 characters and vote on contributions from others. So far, over 6,000 young people have joined, with 225 proposals already submitted.
The Why Not? platform offers a fresh approach to youth engagement in Swiss politics. By using a familiar social media-style format, it lowers barriers to participation. The final proposals will be shared before the November 30 vote, giving young voices a direct role in the discussion.
