Switzerland, China Mark 75 Years of Ties, Pledge Cooperation
Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi met in Bellinzona, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their countries. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and cooperation, with Wang announcing steps to ease travel and promote understanding between their peoples.
The meeting took place within the framework of the fourth cycle of the Strategic Dialogue between Switzerland and China. Cassis and Wang agreed to strengthen cooperation, expressing optimism about the further development of their free trade agreement. They aim to quickly create an updated, more comprehensive version to tackle current economic challenges.
Wang warned against increasing hegemonic aspirations and protectionism in global relations. He also called for a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East and the implementation of a two-state solution, respecting the will of the Palestinians. Cassis expects to present concrete results from their discussions at the beginning of next year.
The meeting between Cassis and Wang, held on the anniversary of diplomatic relations, has set the stage for enhanced cooperation between Switzerland and China.
