Syktvykar Launches First Investment Forum to Revitalize Local Economy
Syktvykar has hosted its first municipal investment forum to drive local economic growth. The event aimed to attract investors, showcase vacant properties, and encourage commercial use of underutilised spaces. City officials and business representatives gathered to discuss opportunities and collaboration.
Mayor Maksim Martyshin opened the forum by stressing the need to repurpose empty municipal buildings. His goal was to expand the city's tax base by putting these properties to productive use. The event also covered plans to reconstruct cultural heritage sites for business activities.
Larisa Turkova, a city official, highlighted efforts to improve public spaces and foster dialogue between authorities and entrepreneurs. Yulia Chuprina presented a list of available properties that could be leased without competitive bidding. Investors were offered 18 ready-made sites for new ventures, along with technical support—though no direct financial incentives were provided.
Kristina Vashchenko shared examples of successful partnerships between local government and businesses. She demonstrated how such collaborations had already benefited the city. Over the past five years, at least 12 other Russian cities—including Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, and Kemerovo—have held similar forums to boost their economies and utilise vacant properties.
The mayor suggested that, if well received, the forum could become an annual event. This would depend on feedback from the business community and its long-term impact on investment.
The forum provided a platform for investors to explore opportunities in Syktvykar. Officials presented practical ways to lease and develop vacant municipal properties. If successful, the event could set a precedent for future economic initiatives in the city.
