Tasa Coffee Roasters: A Family Affair Brewing Community Love in Chicago

Tasa Coffee Roasters, a vibrant new business in Chicago's West Humboldt Park neighborhood, is the brainchild of husband and wife duo Pierre and Jackie Marquez. The coffee shop, named after the Spanish word for mug, is more than just a place to grab a drink; it's a symbol of family, gathering, love, and connection.

The Marquezes' journey began during the COVID pandemic in 2020 with a small roaster. Their love for food and coffee led them to create Tasa Coffee Roasters, a welcoming space that celebrates their first-generation Latino heritage. Pierre, the manager and roastmaster, ensures every cup is perfect, while Jackie, a culinary arts graduate, prepares authentic sandwiches and snacks from scratch.

The couple found an ideal location at North and Kedvale, a storefront that had been vacant for five years. With Pierre acting as project manager, they renovated the space, creating an interior that resembles the color of a latte, fostering a relaxing atmosphere. The family-oriented theme is reflected in the roles of their loved ones: Jackie's sister Faby is sous chef, cousin Vere helps on the grill, little sister Jasmin works the front, and Liz, like family, acts as manager.

Tasa Coffee Roasters received a $250,000 grant from the city's Neighborhood Opportunity Fund, helping them establish their business. Today, it stands as a thriving hub in West Humboldt Park, owned and operated by the Marquezes, who are committed to creating a welcoming space for everyone in their community.
