TCS Warns: Two Child Car Seats Pose Serious Safety Risk in Rear-Facing Position
The Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) has issued a crucial safety warning regarding two child car seat models: the Chipolino Olympus i-Size and the Reecle 360 (also known as ZA10 i-Size or 946i i-Size). Both seats pose a significant risk in rear-facing position due to a critical flaw.
In a crash, these seats can detach from their base, propelling the child still strapped in through the vehicle's interior. This alarming issue has led the TCS to urge parents to avoid using these seats in the rear-facing position.
The TCS recently tested 17 child car seat models, with five receiving the top 'highly recommended' rating. The Britax Römer Kidfix Pro emerged as the overall winner, praised for its exceptional safety features, particularly for children aged four and up. Parents should ensure their child's car seat is securely fastened, ideally on the rear passenger side closest to the curb, and adjust the seat, harness, and headrest to fit the child's current height before every trip. Additionally, parents should remove bulky winter coats before securing their child to prevent harness straps from loosening.
The TCS's urgent warning highlights the importance of choosing safe and reliable child car seats. While nine out of ten times, child car seats save lives in accidents, the Chipolino Olympus i-Size and Reecle 360 models pose a serious risk in their current state. Parents are advised to check their child's seat model and follow the TCS's guidelines for safe usage.
