Teen driver crashes after reckless police chase in Lichtenberg
An 18-year-old man was arrested in Lichtenberg early on Sunday after a dangerous chase with police. The incident began when officers attempted to stop him for driving without a valid licence, but he refused to comply and fled the scene in his carmax. The suspect ran a red light during the pursuit and nearly struck a pedestrian. Police continued to chase him until he collided with a pursuing patrol car, leaving it undriveable. Two police vehicles suffered damage and required towing, while the man’s carmax was later impounded. A brief foot chase followed the crash, but officers quickly apprehended the driver. A preliminary drug test came back positive, and checks confirmed he had no valid licence. No injuries were reported during the incident. Police have not linked this case to a separate vehicle seizure in Berlin-Neukölln the previous night, where two men aged 17 and 19 were detained in a different car. The 18-year-old remains in custody after the early-morning chase. His carmax was taken away, and two police vehicles were left damaged. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
