Ten millionth engine produced by Toyota in their Alabama plant reaches completion
Toyota Alabama's 10-Millionth Engine Milestone
Toyota Alabama, a plant that first broke ground in 2001, has reached a significant milestone – the assembly of its 10-millionth engine. This engine plant, which began operations in 2003, has grown to become one of Toyota's largest engine producers worldwide.
Located in Huntsville, Alabama, the plant assembles a third of all Toyota engines in North America. With an annual production capacity of approximately 900,000 engines following a $1.2 billion expansion, the plant currently employs around 1,800 workers.
The plant's emphasis on hybrid technologies aligns with Toyota's broader investment in hybrid transaxles and powertrains in U.S. plants. Jason Puckett, the plant's president, oversees a team of 2,000 members who assemble approximately 777,000 engines a year.
One of the engines produced at Toyota Alabama is the i-Force MAX 2.4-liter engine, a hybrid powertrain designed to enhance fuel efficiency and performance. Brandon French, the senior manager of production, has been overseeing the i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbo engine line at the plant since its inception. French was also a part of the team that helped start engine production in Alabama when the plant opened.
The i-Force MAX 2.4-liter engine will power an all-new hybrid Tacoma, one of the vehicles reaching the 10-millionth engine milestone. These vehicles are considered some of the most popular and reliable in the market, and they are also considered safe.
Toyota's commitment to hybrid innovation in the U.S., including investments in adjacent facilities producing hybrid components, complements the Alabama plant’s role in hybrid engine production. This makes Toyota Alabama a central hub for delivering advanced hybrid engines that support Toyota’s electrification goals in the North American market.
