Tennessee mourns the loss of Rep. Jeff Burkhart, a devoted public servant
Tennessee has lost a dedicated public servant with the passing of Jeff Burkhart. The former Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, who served the 75th district, has died at the age of 63. The cause of death is yet to be disclosed.
Burkhart began his career as a firefighter, later moving into the construction industry and launching a real estate development business. He entered politics in 2008, serving on the city council until 2016, winning reelection twice in 2012 and 2016. In 2018, he was elected to represent the 75th district in the Tennessee House of Representatives, where he served until his death.
Tributes have poured in for Burkhart. The Tennessee GOP described him as a 'dedicated and humble servant', while Democratic Caucus Chairman John Ray Clemmons remembered him as an 'exemplary public servant' and a 'champion for the families of Montgomery County'. Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn fondly recalled him as a 'good friend' who was committed to improving the lives of his constituents.
Jeff Burkhart is survived by his wife, Cindy Greene, and daughter Meredith Grace Burkhart. His service to the community and the state will be remembered. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
