Teresa Mosqueda kicks off 2026 reelection bid for King County Council

King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda has launched her bid for reelection in District 8. The announcement comes nearly a year before the 2026 general election. Mosqueda, who first won the seat in 2023 with 55% of the vote, is already gathering strong support.

Mosqueda’s political career began on the Seattle city council, where she served from 2018 to 2023. During that time, she led the push for the JumpStart Progressive Payroll tax, a key policy aimed at funding affordable housing and economic relief. She also chaired the council’s budget committee for four years, steering financial decisions through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a year to go before the 2026 election, Mosqueda’s campaign is already gaining momentum. Her experience in local government and strong endorsements position her as a leading figure in the race. The outcome will determine whether she continues to shape policies on housing, health, and workers' rights in King County.
