Texas voters approve all 17 amendments and set runoff elections in motion

Texas voters have approved several propositions and set the stage for runoff elections in key races. The state has passed all 17 constitutional amendments, while propositions ranging from tax reforms to veteran benefits have been approved by wide margins. Meanwhile, several important races will head to runoff elections as no candidate secured 50% of the vote.

Propositions focusing on taxes saw significant support. Proposition 6, prohibiting occupation and securities transaction taxes, passed with 54.8% of the vote. Similarly, Proposition 2, banning a state capital gains tax, received 65% approval. Proposition 5 ensured animal feed would not be subject to property tax, passing by nearly 64%. Additionally, Proposition 8, which bans a death tax, was approved by 72% of voters. Proposition 14, requiring taxpayer funding for dementia research grants, passed by nearly 69%. Proposition 7, providing a homestead exemption for surviving spouses of veterans who died due to service-connected conditions, received overwhelming support with 86%.

In the Texas Senate SD 9 race, Taylor Rehmet and Leigh Wambsganss will advance to a runoff. In Houston's open congressional seat (CD 18), Amanda Edwards and Christian Menefee will compete in a runoff after receiving the most votes. Beth Van Duyne, who won the Republican primary for Texas Congressional District 18, will face Taylor Rehmet in the runoff election.

Notably, Texas voters have passed all 17 constitutional amendments on the ballot by wide margins, demonstrating strong support for the proposed changes.
