Thane and Palghar consumers get relief in ₹324-crore electricity dispute resolution
A National Lok Adalat will take place on December 13, 2025, to help consumers in Thane and Palghar districts settle electricity disputes. Organised under the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Kalyan circle, the event aims to resolve long-standing billing issues and arrears. Eligible consumers have received notices, but walk-ins are also welcome at the sessions held across all taluka courts in the two districts.
The Lok Adalat targets a significant backlog of unpaid electricity bills, with 2.62 lakh consumers owing a combined ₹324 crore. The debts are spread across four divisions: Kalyan Circle-1 (₹43.8 crore), Kalyan Circle-2 (₹134 crore), Vasai Division (₹110 crore), and Palghar Division (₹36.85 crore). Industrial and commercial consumers form the bulk of the arrears, given their higher consumption and billing amounts.
The December 13 Lok Adalat offers consumers a chance to clear pending dues and disputes without prolonged legal procedures. With ₹324 crore in arrears across Thane and Palghar, the event could provide relief to thousands while reducing MSEDCL’s outstanding debts. Participation remains open to all affected parties, whether notified or attending as walk-ins.
