Thousands to March for Peace in Stuttgart This Weekend
Thousands are expected to gather in Stuttgart this weekend for a significant peace event. Organised by the Baden-Württemberg Peace Network, the event aims to promote peace and protest against armament and wars. The motto, 'Never again war-hungry. Standing up for peace', resonates with the participants and speakers alike.
The event kicks off with a rally at 1 pm on Schlossplatz, led by prominent figures such as Margot Käßmann, the former EKD council chair and bishop of Hannover, and Maike Schollenberger, the regional leader of ver.di. Following the opening rally, participants will march through the city's main streets, culminating in a closing rally from 3 to 5 pm.
The event is part of a broader coalition of around 300 peace initiatives and organisations calling for rallies and demonstrations in Stuttgart and Berlin on German Unity Day. While the exact order of speakers at the closing rally is not confirmed, notable figures like Ulrike Eifler, Lothar Binding, and Sevim Dağdelen are set to address the crowd.
The Stuttgart event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of peace and unity. Despite expected traffic disruptions due to concurrent events like the Cannstatter Wasen fairgrounds and the Critical Mass bicycle rally, organisers encourage participants to join the cause and make their voices heard.
