Three Cattle Escape OLMA Fair, Injuring Children
Switzerland's largest public fair, OLMA, faced a dramatic incident this week when three animals escaped from its exhibition centre, injuring two children. The reasons behind the escape remain unclear, with OLMA currently reviewing its procedures.
The Organisation for the Liberation of Animals and the Environment (PETA) has spoken out about the incident, citing high noise levels, large crowds, and aggressive visitors as potential sources of stress for the animal kingdom. OLMA, however, prioritises animal welfare and continually monitors animal husbandry at the fair.
The escaped animals caused alarm on Wednesday, with one of them being shot by a gamekeeper after failed attempts to recapture it. PETA has called for OLMA to remove animals from the fair's programme entirely, instead focusing on vegan and sustainable agriculture.
OLMA is investigating the cause of the animal escape, with PETA's concerns about animal welfare at the fair being raised. The fair organisers are committed to animal welfare, but the future of animal exhibits at OLMA remains uncertain.
