Residents Injured in Life-Threatening Firefighting Attempts - Three injured as basement fire engulfs home in Eberholzen

A house fire in Eberholzen, Hildesheim district, left three people injured on March 16, 2026. The blaze broke out in the basement, prompting a major emergency response. Two men initially tried to tackle the flames before firefighters arrived in force.

The fire began in the basement of a home in Eberholzen. A 63-year-old resident and a 67-year-old neighbour rushed to extinguish it before emergency services reached the scene. The homeowner suffered severe burns and was later airlifted to a specialist clinic for intensive care.

Around 120 firefighters were called to the incident. During the operation, one firefighter injured their knee. The neighbour, who had helped fight the fire, collapsed and required resuscitation at the scene. No updates on the condition of those injured have been reported since the incident.

The fire led to three casualties, including the homeowner, a neighbour, and a firefighter. Emergency teams worked to control the blaze, but the exact cause remains unconfirmed. Authorities have not provided further details on the ongoing investigation.
