Thuringia Celebrates Direct Democracy Success with Keynote by Ralf-Uwe Beck
Thuringia's democratic landscape is set to be celebrated and explored at an upcoming event hosted by the Heinrich Böll Foundation Thuringia and BUND. The event, titled 'Strengthening Democracy through Citizen Engagement', will take place on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Alter Kuhstall in Untermaßfeld. The keynote speaker is Ralf-Uwe Beck, a policy advisor from Eisenach who has significantly contributed to Thuringia's direct democracy.
Beck has been instrumental in shaping the rules for direct democracy in Thuringia, making the state a model for citizen participation in Germany. His efforts have led to the state now having the best conditions for citizen petitions and local referendums.
The event aims to present tools for citizens to engage in political decision-making processes and take matters into their own hands. Beck, who has driven two successful citizens’ initiatives in Thuringia, will share his insights and experiences in the lecture.
The event at the Alter Kuhstall promises to be an enlightening evening, celebrating Thuringia's achievements in direct democracy and providing practical tools for citizens to engage more actively in their local politics. With Beck's expertise and the shared vision of the Heinrich Böll Foundation Thuringia and BUND, the event is set to strengthen representative democracy through active citizen participation.
