Thuringia's judicial system has welcomed a record number of new legal trainees this year. In 2024, 108 aspiring lawyers began their two-year legal clerkship, marking the highest intake since 2013. This surge follows a steady increase in recent years, with 55 trainees in 2022 and 88 in 2023.

The rise in new trainees is a positive development for the state's legal news. Upon completion of their clerkship, these trainees will take the second state examination, paving the way for them to qualify for judicial office. Justice Minister Beate Meißner (CDU) has observed this trend and expressed hope that many of these young legal professionals will choose to stay and build their careers in Thuringia after their clerkship.

The latest batch of trainees began their journey in November 2024, with 59 starting their legal clerkships at that time. This influx of new talent is set to strengthen the judicial system and ensure its continued growth and development.
