Toronto’s Eglinton Crosstown LRT enters critical scored testing phase before launch

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has initiated the final testing phase of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. Revenue service demonstration testing began on October 7, 2022, encompassing both unscored and scored segments. However, an incident during the unscored phase led to delays but did not reset the entire 30-day testing period.

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT remains in its final testing phase, reducing the likelihood of it opening in 2022. The exact duration to complete the testing hinges on the results of the scored phase. The Finch West LRT, which concluded its testing in late October, is scheduled to open on December 7, 2022. If the Crosstown follows a similar pattern, it would not open until mid-December 2022 at the earliest.

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT has now entered the scored testing phase. This involves operating the LRT as if passengers were riding it, but keeping it closed to the public. Initially planned to last 30 days, concluding around November 6, 2022, the testing phase is crucial for ensuring the LRT's readiness for public use.

The TTC continues to work towards completing the final testing phase of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. While an incident caused delays, the testing remains on track. The scored phase is now underway, with the LRT operating as if in service but closed to the public. If all goes well, the Crosstown could open to passengers in mid-December 2022, following the pattern set by the Finch West LRT.
