Track worker critically injured after train collision at German station
A 21-year-old track worker was seriously injured after being struck by a train at Frechen-Königsdorf station early on Thursday. The incident involved a regional express service travelling from Cologne. Emergency services attended the scene immediately.
The accident took place in the early hours at Frechen-Königsdorf station. A regional express train on the RE 9 line hit the worker, causing severe injuries. Paramedics treated him at the scene before rushing him to hospital.
Following the collision, the RE 9 line was shut down for around two hours. Seven trains faced combined delays of about an hour and a half. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any changes to safety measures or rail infrastructure have been made since the incident. Investigations into the exact circumstances remain ongoing.
The injured worker was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The line has since reopened, but delays persisted for several services. Officials continue to examine how the incident occurred.
