Tragic death of three-year-old boy after river accident on kindergarten trip
A three-year-old boy has died after falling into the Sieg River during a kindergarten trip near Siegen. The child had been in hospital for six days following the accident. His death was confirmed in the early afternoon.
The incident happened last Tuesday when the boy was playing near the river with his daycare group. There were 46 children on the outing, supervised by eight adults. Caregivers pulled him from the water after finding him floating in the river.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and performed resuscitation. Despite their efforts, the boy remained in critical condition. He was taken to hospital, where he fought for his life until passing away six days later. The Siegen-Wittgenstein branch of the German Red Cross (DRK) expressed deep shock over the tragedy. DRK board member Martin Horchler offered condolences to the family and stressed the need to support the staff involved. Authorities have stated that the incident appears to be a tragic accident, though investigations remain ongoing.
The boy's death follows a week of medical treatment after the river accident. The kindergarten's staff and emergency teams are receiving support during this time. Officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
