Train ticket dispute escalates into alleged assault with insulin pen on German rail

On the morning of Monday, March 16, 2026, federal police were called to a regional express train traveling from Magdeburg to Schönebeck after a passenger allegedly assaulted a rail employee during a ticket inspection. According to initial findings, the suspect had been riding the train without a valid ticket. When confronted by a conductor, she reportedly became aggressive. A Deutsche Bahn security officer intervened to de-escalate the situation, positioning himself between the parties involved. The 26-year-old woman then allegedly gestured with a sealed insulin pen, striking the security officer near his left eye. Though he reported pain, he declined medical treatment.

Federal police were alerted by the conductor and immediately deployed to Schönebeck-Bad Salzelmen station, where the train had already come to a stop. Upon arrival, officers found the individuals involved, as well as an ambulance crew. The accused—a Nigerian national—had briefly lost consciousness, but paramedics determined she did not require emergency medical care. The fare evader was located at the scene and positively identified. During initial questioning, she admitted to traveling without a ticket but provided no further details about the incident. The insulin pen, considered a potential weapon, was seized as evidence.

Federal police have launched an investigation on suspicion of aggravated assault and fare evasion. After completing their procedures, all parties were released at the scene.
