Transbaikalia’s highway upgrade shines, but a crumbling bridge exposes gaps

In Transbaikalia, a significant upgrade to the Balyaga–Yamarovka highway is complete, part of Russia's 'Infrastructure for Life' national project. However, a bridge in Mogochi remains in need of repair, with heavy trucks causing damage that requires a substantial 100 million ruble fix.

The renovation of the highway involved a comprehensive overhaul. Workers removed the old road surface, laid new pavement, restored the roadbed and subgrade, and installed modern crash barriers and traffic signs. This year alone, 197 kilometers of roads have been renovated in the region. Looking ahead, plans are in place to bring 85% of the region’s core road network up to standard by 2030.

Meanwhile, the bridge over the Amazar River in Mogochi has not been repaired by the promised deadline. Heavy trucks damaged the weight-restriction frame, leading to the expensive repair cost.

While the Balyaga–Yamarovka highway renovation is a notable achievement, the delay in repairing the bridge in Mogochi highlights the ongoing infrastructure challenges in the region. With ambitious plans to upgrade the road network by 2030, maintaining progress and addressing issues promptly will be crucial.
