Transbaikal’s 2025 unemployment crisis hits secondary-educated workers hardest

In 2025, the rate of joblessness in Russia's Transbaikal Territory was 5%, impacting approximately 23,600 individuals, with men accounting for 13,200 of this figure. The situation was least severe among those without formal education (1.7%) and those with higher education (5.8%).

Those with secondary (38.5%) and basic secondary (24.4%) education were the most affected by joblessness. The high unemployment rate was primarily due to the economic downturn and war impacts, leading to increased hidden unemployment and short-time work. To address this, authorities planned to construct 5 million square meters of housing and renovate medical facilities by the end of 2030, aiming to bolster the economy and employment.

Joblessness in the Transbaikal Territory was a pressing issue, with those having secondary and basic secondary education being the most affected. The government was taking steps to improve the economic situation and employment prospects by investing in housing and medical facilities.
