Transformed Aviation Hub: Unveiling Newark Airport's Remarkable Breakthrough in Clarity Sound

In the heart of New Jersey, Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport underwent a significant transformation, marking the largest single investment in the Port Authority's history. Spanning one million square feet and boasting 33 gates, the terminal showcases the Garden State's landmarks, art, and innovations through permanent large-scale multimedia installations.

One of the key features of the renovated terminal is its advanced paging system, designed and implemented by MKJ Communications. The system is based on AtlasIED's GLOBALCOM communications platform, integrated with PAXGuide software, to deliver a seamless, multilingual, and automated public announcement system.

The integration of AtlasIED GLOBALCOM with PAXGuide software enhances the automation and intelligence of public address functionality, enabling efficient communication across the complex terminal. This combination simplifies operations by automating announcements, managing multiple zones, and allowing dynamic, situation-specific paging tailored to terminal areas.

The modular design supports scalability for large terminals with varied communication needs. Strategic partnerships, such as that between AtlasIED and Sittig Technologies, are essential for combining hardware communication infrastructure with intelligent software management tools to deliver a seamless paging experience.

Careful planning of speaker placement, zone management, integration with airport operational systems, and ensuring reliable connectivity were crucial considerations during the implementation. The terminal utilizes 120 Dante-enabled AtlasIED IED570DDT-H digital communication stations for paging. Each station features a fully programmable touchscreen user interface and a handheld microphone, eliminating the proximity effect.

The T112 amplifiers, chosen for signal automation, processing, and amplification in a single modular solution, offer 12 main channels of amplification and two backup channels for redundancy. If an amplifier card fails, the digital signal processing is automatically switched to the backup amplifier card, ensuring uninterrupted public address service.

The Port Authority integrated the GLOBALCOM platform with the airport fire evacuation and alarm system, ensuring smooth and safe terminal operations. Passengers can hear audio and receive instructions from airport personnel with clarity, reducing travel-related stress.

Feedback from passengers traveling through Terminal A has been positive, with attention to detail in every aspect of the terminal. The terminal's paging system contributes to this positive experience, ensuring clear and audible travel announcements, even in high noise levels.

The terminal at Newark Airport, with its advanced paging system, represents a significant stride in enhancing passenger communication and operational efficiency. By leveraging AtlasIED’s GLOBALCOM platform integrated with PAXGuide, airports can implement similar complex, multilingual, automated paging systems, making travel experiences more enjoyable and stress-free.
