Man Stabbed, House Set on Fire - Trial Begins - Trial begins for man accused of attempted murder and arson after brutal attack
A 39-year-old man will face trial on Monday for attempted murder and aggravated arson at the Flensburg Regional Court. The trial comes nearly six months after an incident in Mohrkirch, where the victim suffered severe injuries and his property was extensively damaged.
The defendant has been in pretrial detention since May 26, following an aggravated assault on a 43-year-old man. The assault occurred when the attacker set the victim's house on fire after failing to break into the bathroom where the victim had locked himself. The victim managed to escape through a window and call emergency services. He sustained stab wounds to the head, neck, and upper arm, with reports indicating five or six stab wounds in total. The property damage is estimated at €250,000.
The trial begins on Monday, with witnesses scheduled to testify on the first day. Nine additional hearing dates have been planned. The attacker had threatened to kill or 'finish off' the victim during the aggravated assault.
The trial is expected to last several weeks, with a verdict potentially delivered as early as December 18. The defendant faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson. The victim's recovery and the rebuilding of his property are ongoing.
