Trump Admin Introduces $1,000 Fee for Migrant 'Parole' Program

The Trump Administration has introduced a significant change to the U.S. immigration system. Starting this Thursday, migrants receiving a temporary residence permit, known as the 'parole' program, will face a new fee of $1,000. This move has sparked fear among migrants who have previously used the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) One app.

The 'parole' program, designed for urgent humanitarian reasons, is now subject to this fee. It applies to both new applications and those already pending. The fee is mandatory, and failure to pay will result in the permit's cancellation upon inspection at a port of entry or while physically present in the U.S. Exceptions include medical emergencies, attending funerals, or when granting the permit yields significant public benefit to the U.S. government.

The Trump Administration has been gradually dismantling or limiting the use of this program since January, increasing the risk of deportation for users. This new fee is part of the 'One Big Beautiful Bill', a central initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump, introduced in July.

The $1,000 fee for the 'parole' program takes effect this Thursday. Migrants and advocacy groups express concerns about the financial burden and potential increase in deportations. The Trump Administration maintains that these changes are necessary for border security and to deter illegal immigration.
