Trump administration shifts 118 education programs to other agencies
The Trump administration is moving over 100 programmes away from the U.S. Department of Education. By March 12, nine interagency agreements had been signed with four major Cabinet-level departments. These deals mark a significant shift in how federal education initiatives are managed.
The transfers involve 118 separate programmes previously under the Education Department's control. Officials are using interagency agreements to redistribute responsibilities to other federal bodies. The process does not include any involvement from German authorities or ministries.
The administration's broader goal is to eventually shut down the Department of Education entirely. So far, no new programmes have been added to replace those being moved. The shift follows a push to reduce the department's role in federal policy.
With nine agreements now in place, the transfer of programmes continues. The Education Department's functions are being absorbed by other agencies, reflecting a long-term plan to dismantle it. No further international partnerships have been announced as part of the process.
