Trump’s DOGE task force dissolves months before its deadline
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a key task force under President Donald Trump, has collapsed eight months before its mandate was set to end. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has now absorbed many of its functions, marking the end of DOGE as a standalone entity.
DOGE was launched early in Trump’s second term with a bold mission: to rapidly shrink federal agencies. Led initially by Elon Musk, the group made aggressive moves across Washington, claiming to have cut tens of billions in spending. However, the lack of detailed public records made these claims impossible to verify.
The dissolution of DOGE shifts responsibility for government efficiency efforts to the OPM. The hiring freeze is over, and former DOGE staff have moved into new positions. The task force’s legacy remains unclear, with its spending cuts never fully documented.
