Two Dead, Two Critical in Kakon Bahini Gang Violence in Rajshahi's Nichkhanpur Char

A violent incident occurred in the Nichkhanpur char area of Bagha upazila, Rajshahi, leaving two men dead and two others critically injured. The dispute stemmed from a turf war over control of a recently emerged river island on the Padma River. Suspected members of the notorious Kakon Bahini gang are believed to be responsible.

The deceased, identified as Aman Mondal, 36, and Nazmul Hossain, 33, were among a group of victims who had gone to the char to clear a piece of land. Armed men from the Kakon Bahini gang opened fire without warning, leading to a tragic outcome. Aman succumbed to his injuries at Bagha Upazila Health Complex, while Nazmul passed away en route to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Two others, Muntaz Mondal, 32, and Rakib Hossain, 18, remain in critical condition at the same hospital.

The Kakon Bahini gang, known for its extortion activities, operates across nearly 40 kilometres of the Padma River. They have been targeting sand traders, fishermen, and farmers along the river, demanding money in exchange for 'protection'. The gang's exact identity and leadership remain unclear, as specific information is not available up to my last update in October 2023.

The incident highlights the ongoing issue of gang violence and extortion in the region. Authorities are urged to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice. Meanwhile, the injured continue to receive medical attention, with the fate of Muntaz and Rakib remaining uncertain.
