Two Men Sentenced for Fatal Carjacking of 72-Year-Old Carl Kosmos
Two men, David Johnson and Treyante Maxwell, have been sentenced for their roles in the fatal carjacking of 72-year-old Carl Kosmos in Dolton, Illinois in August 2020. Maxwell pleaded guilty to murder and received 27 years in prison, while Johnson got 30 years plus an additional 3 years for another armed robbery.
The incident occurred as Carl Kosmos slept in his car. Johnson and Maxwell attempted to carjack him. When Kosmos tried to drive away, he was shot and killed. Both men were charged with felony murder and aggravated vehicular hijacking. Maxwell expressed remorse, leading to a slightly reduced sentence compared to Johnson's.
