Two new land routes open for Canadians entering Saudi Arabia by road

Canadians planning to travel to Saudi Arabia by land now have two designated border crossings available. The routes, Al Salmi / Ar-Ruqi and Al Nuwaiseeb / Al-Khafji, provide entry points for those arriving overland. However, travelers must meet strict requirements before attempting the journey.

No direct land border exists between Canada and Saudi Arabia, meaning all crossings occur via third countries. Officials confirm that only licensed tour operators, taxis, or buses can transport travelers to the border—walking across is not allowed.

Before departure, Canadians must ensure they carry a valid passport and obtain the necessary visa. While visas can be issued upon arrival at the border, other documents, such as a Civil ID for residents, may also be required. Those driving must bring additional paperwork, including vehicle registration, travelers insurance, and written authorization if the vehicle is not in their name.

Pets entering Saudi Arabia must comply with the country's import regulations. Travelers are also advised to pack enough food, water, and medication for the trip. Authorities strongly recommend checking the latest border status and safety updates before setting out, as conditions can change without warning.

The two land crossings offer a route for Canadians entering Saudi Arabia, but preparation is essential. Meeting all entry rules, securing proper documents, and staying informed on border conditions will help ensure a smooth journey. Officials continue to urge travelers to assess risks and verify details before leaving.
