Arrest of two suspects in the murder of a café owner in Bavaria - Two Romanian Men Arrested in Brutal Murder of Bavarian Café Owner
Two Romanian men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 70-year-old café owner in Nonnenhorn, Bavaria. The victim, Esme E., was killed in July 2024 during what police believe was a robbery gone wrong. Both suspects now face murder and theft charges after months of investigation.
The case took a major step forward in early February 2026 when a 53-year-old suspect was detained in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony. Weeks later, on March 10, a second man, aged 30, turned himself in to authorities in Lindau, Bavaria. An investigating judge had already issued arrest warrants for both on strong suspicion of murder.
Police allege the pair killed the café owner to steal the day's takings—a sum in the thousands. Evidence gathered includes distinctive tattoos and a van linked to the crime. The Kempten police and prosecutors continue to investigate, urging any witnesses to come forward. Both men have since been remanded in custody as the case moves forward. Media reports suggest the arrests have brought some closure to a crime that shocked the local community.
The two suspects remain in custody while the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released further details on the evidence or potential motives beyond the robbery. The case will now proceed through the German legal system.
