U.S. envoy strengthens Georgia’s role in new TRIPP transport corridor

Jonathan Askonas, a senior advisor from the U.S. Department of State, is currently in Georgia to discuss the country’s role in a new transport corridor. The visit follows a U.S.-mediated peace summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan that established the 'Trump International Peace and Prosperity Route' (TRIPP). During his trip, Askonas is meeting with Georgian officials and inspecting key infrastructure sites.

Askonas began his visit by touring the Sadakhlo Motor Vehicle customs checkpoint, a facility largely funded by the United States. This checkpoint plays a strategic role in regional trade and connectivity.

The meetings highlight Georgia’s potential as a key transit hub in the TRIPP corridor. If fully implemented, the route could enhance regional trade and economic cooperation. Askonas’s visit signals ongoing U.S. engagement in the project’s development.
