Ukraine Denies Using Western Weapons to Strike Russia
Ukraine has denied reports that it used Western weapons to strike Russia, as negotiations for longer-range missiles continue. The Wall Street Journal claimed Ukraine hit a plant in Bryansk with Storm Shadow missiles, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed this. Zelenskyy clarified that Ukraine has not used American weapons for long-range strikes inside Russia. Instead, Ukraine can strike deep into enemy territory with its own long-range weapons, boasting a range of 150 to 3,000 km. The Ukrainian President has been pressing for tighter sanctions enforcement and the use of frozen Russian assets. European countries began negotiations about providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine around late September 2025. This followed diplomatic efforts by Zelenskyy to persuade the U.S. to allow sales of these long-range missiles to European states, which could then supply them to Ukraine. Former U.S. President Donald Trump denied the report but clarified that his comments referred only to American-made weapons. Ukraine maintains it has not used Western weapons for long-range strikes in Russia. The country continues to seek support for its military efforts, with talks ongoing for the provision of longer-range missiles. Zelenskyy remains focused on enforcing sanctions and utilising frozen Russian assets.
