Ukraine joins UK-led military alliance in historic defense pact
Ukraine has been welcomed into the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), a UK-led military coalition of Northern European nations. The agreement was sealed in Bodø, Norway, during a meeting of defense ministers, attended by Ukraine's Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The JEF, established in 2010, is a multinational force comprising ten countries: the United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway. Ukraine's inclusion as a partner marks a significant step in its integration with European defense structures.
The Joint Expeditionary Force is designed to respond swiftly to crises and conflicts. It has participated in various operations, including peacekeeping missions and humanitarian relief efforts. Ukraine's involvement will strengthen the force's capabilities and demonstrate European solidarity with the war-torn country.
Ukraine's partnership in the JEF signals a deepening of its ties with European allies. The move is expected to enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities and foster closer cooperation with Northern European nations. The JEF, in turn, gains a committed partner willing to contribute to its shared goals of promoting peace and security.
