Ukraine's new 9 AM silence law sparks false driver pull-over claims
A new Ukrainian law has introduced a daily moment of silence at 9:00 AM. Social media posts falsely claimed that drivers must pull over during this time. The law itself contains no such requirement.
Law No. 4783-IX was recently passed, setting a nationwide moment of silence each morning. The legislation does not include rules on how the silence should be observed. It also does not instruct drivers to stop their vehicles.
The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance will now create guidelines for the observance. These recommendations aim to clarify how the moment should be respected.
False claims spread online that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had signed a rule forcing drivers to halt. No official statement from the government or the president has addressed these inaccuracies.
The law itself remains unchanged, with no obligation for drivers to pull over. The Institute of National Remembrance will provide further guidance on the observance. No official response has yet been made regarding the false social media claims.
