Ukrainian Filmmakers' 'Road of Life' Installation Finalist for Prestigious Award

Ukrainian filmmakers Yelizaveta Smith, Alina Gorlova, and Simon Mozgovyi have received international recognition for their memorial installation, 'Road of Life'. The project, situated in Irpin, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Media Architecture Biennale 2025 Award. The installation, which transforms the site of the destroyed Romanivsky Bridge into a symbol of hope and healing, was selected from dozens of global entries. It is one of just 21 finalists chosen by the jury for the biennale. The filmmakers, who previously co-directed 'Militantropos', a documentary about the human experience in war, have used pulsating red threads of light to symbolize recovery. The design employs specialized museum lighting to accentuate specific elements of the bridge, creating a powerful visual effect. 'Road of Life' is part of the larger 'Kyiv Region. Places of Memory' project, dedicated to preserving the historical record of the 2022 events. The recognition for 'Road of Life' is a testament to the filmmakers' ability to create meaningful and impactful art from the remnants of conflict. The installation serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the human spirit's resilience.
