Ulm and Neu-Ulm deepen ties with Ukrainian city through cultural and economic projects

Ulm and Neu-Ulm have strengthened their ties with the Ukrainian city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi through a solidarity partnership formed in 2023. Recent meetings and events have focused on expanding cooperation in research, economic growth, and cultural exchange. The latest developments include plans for a professional visit in 2026 and preparations for the upcoming International Danube Festival in Ulm.

The partnership between the German cities and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi began in 2023. Since then, joint efforts have led to practical support, such as the procurement of a waste collection vehicle for the Ukrainian city in 2025. While details on broader impacts remain limited, the collaboration has continued through various initiatives.

A recent meeting highlighted new opportunities for cooperation in trauma research, economic development, and cultural programmes. The Ukrainian consul general expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from Ulm and Neu-Ulm.

Looking ahead, a week-long professional visit for Ukrainian municipal specialists is scheduled for February 2026. The United Nations will back this programme, aiming to strengthen public service expertise. Meanwhile, the International Danube Festival in Ulm, set for July 3, will feature an international conference on digitalisation. Organised by Baden-Württemberg's Ministry of Economic Affairs, IHK Ulm, and the Danube Office, the event will also welcome Consul General Nykytiuk as a guest.

The partnership between Ulm, Neu-Ulm, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi remains active, with upcoming events and exchanges planned for 2026. The International Danube Festival and the professional visit for Ukrainian officials mark the next steps in this ongoing collaboration. Both sides continue to explore ways to deepen ties in research, economy, and culture.
