Ulm's Housing Hopes Dashed as Army Keeps Bleidorn Barracks
Ulm's Lord Mayor Martin Ansbacher has expressed regret over the delay in housing projects, acknowledging the need for reassessment due to Europe's changing security situation. The city had long shown interest in the Bleidorn Barracks site for housing development.
The German Armed Forces have announced their continued use of Ulm’s Bleidorn Barracks, leading to the cancellation of planned housing projects on the site. The city had viewed the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks' (BImA) previous plans as a compromise, with parts of the site, especially along Westerlinger Straße, earmarked for residential development. The BImA had intended to build new apartments there.
The city of Ulm's hopes for housing development on the Bleidorn Barracks site have been dashed due to the Armed Forces' continued use. The delay in housing projects is regrettable, but the city understands the need to prioritise security in light of Europe's changing situation.
