UNC Health names Dr. Cristy Page as permanent CEO after interim leadership

UNC Health has appointed Dr. Cristy Page as its new permanent CEO. She will also take on the roles of dean of the UNC School of Medicine and vice chancellor for medical affairs. Her official term begins on Monday, following months in an interim capacity.

Dr. Page first assumed the interim CEO position in April, after Dr. Wesley Burks stepped down. Burks had led UNC Health since 2021 but formally left the role in July 2023. His departure came as he shifted focus to the expansion of North Carolina Children’s Hospital and to address his family’s health insurance needs.

The appointment follows a series of approvals from key governing bodies. The UNC Board of Governors confirmed Dr. Page’s selection after endorsements from both the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees and the UNC Health Board of Directors.

With Dr. Page now in place, UNC Health moves forward under new leadership. She takes over a system that includes multiple hospitals, research centers, and medical training programs. The transition marks the end of an interim period and the start of a permanent tenure.
