Unfinished bike and pedestrian bridges leave residents frustrated after delays
Two pedestrian and bicycle overpasses remain unfinished despite the main transport bridge reopening in 2023. Residents have raised concerns over unsafe conditions, while repeated delays have pushed back completion dates. Local councillor Saltanat Serikova has highlighted the issue in multiple sessions. The main bridge was rebuilt in just three months and opened to traffic as planned. However, the two accompanying pedestrian-bicycle crossings were left incomplete. Their original designs were later revised after consultations with residents, causing further setbacks. The project’s delays stem from design changes, utility relocations, and weather constraints. With the southern crossing due this year and the northern side pushed to 2026, the finalised plans still await state approval. Until then, safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists remain unresolved.
