Union Minister Praises RPF, Highlights Indian Railways' Decade of Progress
The Union Minister commended the high standards of discipline and commitment displayed by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) during a recent parade. The minister also highlighted the significant developments and improvements in Indian Railways, including the expansion of track networks, electrification, and enhanced passenger facilities.
Over the past decade, Indian Railways has made substantial progress in infrastructure development. Nearly 35,000 km of new tracks have been laid, significantly expanding the network. Additionally, around 7,000 coaches are manufactured annually, with approximately 3,500 general coaches added to accommodate more passengers.
The focus on modernisation and efficiency is evident in the electrification of 99% of the network, covering around 60,000 km. This not only reduces operational costs but also improves punctuality and reliability.
In anticipation of the festive season, over 12,000 special trains are being operated to cater to increased demand during Diwali and Chhath. The RPF has played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of millions of devotees during events like the recent Mahakumbh.
The indigenously developed Kavach Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system is being rapidly deployed on major routes. So far, it has been installed on 1,200 locomotives, enhancing safety and preventing accidents. The RPF's commitment to service has been recognised with 41 personnel awarded the President's Medals for Meritorious Service and Jeevan Raksha Medals for saving passengers' lives.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 1,300 stations are being redeveloped to provide improved facilities and enhance passenger experience. As of now, 110 stations have been inaugurated, with the remaining stations planned to be rebuilt between 2023 and 2030.
Indian Railways is also expanding its fleet of modern trains. Currently, 150 Vande Bharat and 30 Amrit Bharat Express trains are operational, offering passengers world-class travel experiences.
The Union Minister's visit to the RPF parade underscores the importance of security and discipline in railway operations. The significant strides made in infrastructure development, safety measures, and passenger convenience reflect the government's commitment to modernising and improving Indian Railways. With ongoing projects and new train introductions, Indian Railways continues to evolve and adapt to meet the growing needs of its passengers.
