Uniting in the skies: Joanneum Aeronautics Endeavor
Joanneum Aeronautics Prepares for the 2022 DBF Contest
The Joanneum Aeronautics student club at FH Joanneum in Graz, Austria, is gearing up for the Design, Build, Fly (DBF) contest in Wichita, Kansas, scheduled for April 2022. This student organization, specializing in aeronautics and aerospace engineering projects, has a history of success in the DBF competition.
The DBF contest is a prestigious hands-on project-based challenge where students apply classroom principles to real-world aerospace design and operations, aiming for both technical excellence and operational success of their aircraft at the contest. In previous years, the Joanneum Aeronautics team has represented Austria and achieved the third place in 2019.
The DBF Team's main objectives for the 2022 contest include designing an efficient, lightweight, and reliable aircraft that meets the competition’s detailed technical and mission requirements. They aim to demonstrate hands-on skills in aerodynamics, structural design, manufacturing, and flight testing. The team also seeks to foster teamwork and innovation among students within aerospace engineering and compete successfully on an international stage to showcase their ability to build a functional flying aircraft.
The DBF Team currently consists of three active groups: Team Drone Tech (TDT), Laviators, and the DBF Team. The DBF Team is currently working on a UAV project, having conducted some test flights already. Lucas Kappel, a resident at the STUWO dormitory Smart Living in Graz, is a member of the DBF Team and is studying Aviation at FH Joanneum. He also holds a Private Pilot License.
The DBF Team's sub team leader is responsible for fundraising, a crucial aspect of the team's operation. Due to COVID, the team leader is working mainly online from their STUWO apartment, located near FH Joanneum, allowing for a ten-minute commute to the aviation laboratory.
The DBF Team can be found on various social media platforms, and their contact information is provided, including a phone number, email address, and quicklinks for accommodation in Graz and Vienna. The team leader encourages readers to read the blog "Hangartalk" on the FH Joanneum website.
As the DBF contest in Wichita, Kansas, approaches, the Joanneum Aeronautics team is looking forward to competing against international teams and demonstrating their skills in aerospace engineering.
The Joanneum Aeronautics team is seeking sponsors within the industry and finance sectors to support their aircraft design for the upcoming DBF contest in 2022. With their focus on modern technology and the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in their projects, they aim to secure funding to increase their capabilities in transportation and aviation.
To further enhance their project, the DBF Team is also seeking collaborations with other tech-focused organizations to leverage advanced systems and improve their chances of success at the competition and beyond.
