Unknowns Gift Wrap Flash Box as Christmas Present

A mobile police speed camera in Schleitheim, Canton Schaffhausen, was wrapped like a Christmas present just before December 25, 2025. Unknown individuals disguised the device with festive decorations, temporarily putting it out of action. Authorities have confirmed the prank but stressed that tampering with such equipment is illegal.

The speed camera was found covered in a white tarp, adorned with gift ribbon and a red bow. A handwritten note attached to it read, 'Merry Christmas to the Tschugger'—a local term for police officers. The Schaffhausen cantonal police acknowledged the stunt but made it clear that interfering with radar devices is a criminal offence.

In their response, officials emphasised that speed checks play a crucial role in road safety. They help reduce reckless driving and prevent accidents before they happen. Despite the incident, the police extended warm holiday greetings to the public. Authorities have warned that anyone identified as responsible will face legal consequences. The camera has since been restored to service, ensuring traffic monitoring continues as usual.

The prank temporarily disrupted speed enforcement in Schleitheim. Police have reiterated that such devices are essential for maintaining road safety, not festive decorations. If caught, those behind the stunt will be prosecuted under the law.
