Police Arrest Young Man After Chase in Trier - Unlicensed driver leads police on drug-fueled high-speed chase near Trier
A young driver without a valid licence led police on a high-speed chase near Trier on Friday evening. Officers later arrested the man in the Saarburg area after stopping his vehicle. Authorities confirmed he was under the influence of narcotics at the time.
The pursuit began when police attempted to stop the driver for speeding. Instead of complying, he accelerated and drove recklessly, forcing officers to initiate a chase. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle swerving and ignoring traffic signals during the incident.
The man was eventually detained near the Saarburg police station. Tests revealed he was impaired by drugs and lacked a valid driving licence. Police have since launched a criminal investigation into the matter. Under Saarland's traffic laws, driving without a licence while impaired, fleeing from police, and endangering others carries severe penalties. These include up to two years in prison or a fine, a mandatory medical-psychological assessment (MPU), and at least six months of licence disqualification. If the damage or risk caused exceeds around €1,500, a permanent revocation of the licence may follow. Authorities are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information about the incident.
The driver faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, drug impairment, and fleeing from police. His licence will remain suspended for at least six months, with further penalties possible depending on the investigation's findings. Police continue to gather evidence and urge anyone who saw the chase to contact them.
