Unlicensed teen crashes rental car after fleeing Berlin police in reckless chase
An 18-year-old driver crashed a rental car in Charlottenburg late on Wednesday evening. Police had attempted to stop the vehicle after noticing reckless driving. The incident left two parked cars and a tree damaged.
The crash unfolded after officers spotted the Audi rental car being driven dangerously through Charlottenburg. When police signalled for the driver to pull over, he ignored the commands and continued driving. Moments later, the teenager lost control of the vehicle, smashing into two parked cars and a tree.
Paramedics arrived at the scene to treat the driver, who reported pain in both legs and the back of his head. Despite the collision, breathalyser and drug rapid tests returned negative results. Authorities later confirmed the driver did not hold a valid licence. The case has now been handed over to Polizeidirektion 2 (Direktion 2), the police directorate responsible for further investigations. A specialised unit from the West division will lead the inquiry into the incident.
The driver’s injuries were assessed by paramedics before he was taken for further checks. Police have not yet released details on potential charges, but the lack of a valid licence and failure to stop for officers will form part of the investigation. The damaged vehicles and tree remain at the scene as authorities process the aftermath.
