US Ambassador-designate Apologizes for Saddam Hussein Remarks
US Ambassador-designate to Kuwait, Amer Ghaleb, has apologized to the Kuwaiti people for his earlier statements about Saddam Hussein. The apology came during a hearing before the US Congressional Committee. Ghaleb clarified that his earlier remarks, made in the heat of frustration over the lack of response to Iranian attacks on US military bases in Iraq, did not reflect his true views. He expressed his respect for the Kuwaiti people and their history. US Senator Jeanne Shaheen had previously criticized Ghaleb's statements, deeming them unacceptable. Ghaleb's apology has put the matter to rest. His respect for the Kuwaiti people remains clear, and he is committed to fostering strong relations between the US and Kuwait.
